Local Meetings to Keep in Mind|
Hello Teton Valley Tea Party,
There are a couple of meetings I wanted to make sure everyone was aware. First of all, tonight the County is sponsoring an informational meeting to share the results of the information gathering process from the Teton Valley 2020 project. This process involved gathering community input as to what is important to the valley citizens as the County prepares to undertake the Comp Plan process. The meeting is tonight from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Courthouse. It will be an open house setting, so you can come and go as you please. It shouldn't take too more than 15 or 20 minutes. I feel that this is a worthwhile opportunity to get more information about the progress of the Comp Plan, and to see how you can get involved as this rolls forward. I think it is VERY important for all of us to keep a close eye on this process and to get involved where we can.
The second meeting is in regards to the school bond levies. The school district has posted a notice of their Levy Renewal Information meetings, as well as their proposed levy budget breakdown. I feel it is very important for us to educate ourselves about these levies. As Tea Party members, we should all appreciate the fact that we have local control over the spending of our tax dollars. These levies may be an important use of our tax money. However, we need more information from the School District, and we all need to understand where this money will be spent. None of us want to think about cutting more in our local education system. However, as Tea Party members I think we need to get involved in our local elections, and local government spending. This seems to be yet another example of an "emergency situation" that will require taxation, with little details of how the money will be spent. If this $3M is all justified, I will be in the front of the voting line waiting to check "Yes". But at this point, we need more information. So I encourage you all to attend one of these meetings and get informed. Those meetings are as follows:
Feb. 22, 7 pm at Victor Elementary
Feb. 23, 7 pm at Teton High School – auditorium
Feb. 24, 7 pm at Tetonia Elementary
One final note, if any of you are interested in helping out more with our local Tea Party, please let me know. I know we have not been as well organized in recent months, but our cause cannot be dropped. We need to be even more engaged in the issues and collectively come up with some solutions that will help our situation in our county, our state, and our great nation. Thanks for the efforts you are already making.
