Teton Valley TEA Party Meeting Minutes

Teton Valley TEA Party,

I wanted to shoot everyone a quick email and let you all know what was discussed during Wednesday night's meeting. We were short on numbers but I think there was a lot going on that night. However, we had some good discussions. Here is a breakdown of how that meeting went:

  • Discussion of County Budget Advisory Committee - This is a discussion we ad from our last meeting in December. It was discussed in that previous meeting that we should organize and form a committee of citizens interested in watch-dogging the County's budget. It was recommended then that we contact the Board of County Commissioners and notify them of our intent to form such a group. The report at this Wednesday's meeting was that the BOCC was open to the idea at first, but not accommodating. However, one of our TEA Party members has been attending all of the county meetings the last few months since then, and she was actually asked by one of the Commissioners to serve on such a committee. I am attaching a draft of the 2012 Teton County Budget Meeting Schedule. We really need volunteers to help out with this project. We feel it is a great opportunity for us to not only watchdog the tax dollars, but to also offer help to the commissioners as they make decisions. If anyone is interested in helping out, let me know and we will get you involved. This will be an ongoing agenda item for future meetings.

  • Discussion of school levy election - We discussed the school levy election and the need to keep the pressure on the school district and school board to spend that money wisely. We discussed some areas of concern as to issues with where some of that money may be directed. We are following up with the school district to clarify those issues. School Board elections are coming up on May 17th. TODAY,MARCH 18TH @ 5:00 PM, IS THE DEADLINE TO FILE IF YOU PLAN TO RUN AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER. I highlighted this make sure that if there is anyone interested in running as a school board member, you have to file TODAY! I have attached a notice as well as a school districting map. If you have any interest, or know anyone who is, please file today!

  • Discussion of County Comprehensive Plan - We discussed briefly the status of the Comprehensive Plan. The county is in the process of contracting with a consulting firm to take the lead on this process. The subcommittees are currently being formed. If anyone is interested in getting involved in this process, please contact me ASAP!

  • Discussion of Health Care Compacts - We discussed the process of Health Care Compacts, and the formation of these programs throughout the country. This is something that may be new to each of us. Caroline Reynolds is working on this project and will continue to help educate us about this process. This may be one of the best approaches to get rid of Obamacare, and set up a more efficient health care process. More to come on this in the future.

  • Discussion of local TEA party organization - Final point of discussion was the need to form a more organized structure with our local TEA party. We all agreed that there is more that can be done if we are organized. , But we need help to make this happen. Please let me know if you are interested in stepping up and taking a leadership role. We really need people to help out. I know we are all busy, but additional help would be great! We will plan to discuss this structure in our next meeting.
If any of you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for all that each of you do to help protect our freedoms. Have a great weekend!

We plan on having monthly TEA Party meetings. We are planning on the 3rd Thursday of each month, starting April 21st. We will meet at the Super 8 Motel conference room. Plan to show up at 6:00, but the meeting will start at 6:30 sharp.
