The Progressive Agenda
For Our Schools

Good morning Teton Valley Tea Party!

This is one of the most basic and successful forms of long term indoctrination - please inform the young families in your circle and encourage them to seek alternative forms of education or getting very involved in their public schools.

It's a non-stop struggle to pursue truth and protect liberty, please don't give up.

Subject: alpine school dist mission statement

Hi, My cousin who lives in this area sent me this information because of her great concern. I would much this be something cute, fun or lovely but a word to the wise is what is called for here.

My cousin wrote:

If youíre not in the Alpine School District donít relaxÖitís happening where you live too. Carol

In learning many new things relevant to Alpine School District (ASD), I thought it best to share the information.

Susan Schnell 3/9/10 Alpine School District Speech

Posted on June 15, 2010 by jcarman

Several have asked to see Susieís March 2010 speech posted. Here it is, with Susieís permission:

Let me introduce myself. My name is Susan Schnell and I wrote the email that is circulating around the district. You might wonder why your motto, "Enculturating the Young into a Social and Political Democracy" is important enough to draw so much attention. Perhaps I can shed some light.

I am the daughter of an immigrant who was forced to flee her country when the Soviet Union under Stalin seized Ukraine and brought it under communist rule. The Soviets collectivized farms, burned down churches, took away their religion, their traditions and their heritage and then murdered many millions of Ukrainians. Just before they escaped, my mother overheard her parents say that the "Soviets are stealing away our children." She understood well that this meant from the age of 3, the children would be sent to public schools where they would completely indoctrinate them into a new culture. The Ukrainian children were to "unlearn" everything their families taught them about their religion, history, culture, heritage and even their native language. The Soviets knew that to succeed, they had to control the minds of the children. As Vladimir Lenin said,

"Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted. Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever."

So my grandparents sacrificed everything they had, even their lives to come to America where their family would be free from oppression and their children free from indoctrination, or should I say "enculturation." Because of this heritage, I have been warned my entire life to watch for warning signs of socialism. Freedom and education came at a very high price for my family.

I received my teaching degree from California State University in Sacramento. I am now painfully aware of why they named my major Liberal Studies instead of Elementary Education. I ended up receiving 4 years of liberal indoctrination instead of how to succeed as a teacher, so I am well aware of the training teachers receive before they go into the classroom.

We are seeing our great nation collapse because of socialistic ideas which are seeping into our government. Our Constitution is hanging by a thread, no doubt. But recently it has come to our attention that even our children right here in Alpine School District are being uninformed and misinformed of our great American heritage. We have been naÔve, too trusting, and too busy to notice the awful situation that is now upon us. We put our trust in our government leaders, including this school board, and they have let us down. We think America is always going to be great just because it is America and we donít have to do anything to stand up for it. Well, we have awakened! We now have a generation of millions of school children across the nation who are either going to save this nation or help to destroy it and it all rests in the hands of their parents and teachers. We know that in every state, children are being indoctrinated in schools because conspiring men know as Adolf Hitler said "He alone who owns the youth, gains the future." There is a war going on to transform our nation and we are seeing it right in front of our eyes. Socialist educators like John Dewey, John Goodlad and Bill Ayers have been feeding the socialist agenda for years in many universities around the nation and yes, unfortunately, that includes universities here in Utah.

Right now in Texas, school book publishers are trying to change history by leaving out some of our Founding Fathers and the great men who fought for this country. These books will be distributed throughout the whole country. They are taking out patriots such as Ben Franklin, Davy Crocket, and Daniel Boone. In CA schools, my children learned that Christopher Columbus was a horrible man and that Abraham Lincoln was gay. In the high school, they were taught that parents and religion were old-fashioned and they should question the belief system they learned at home. This was fed to them everyday at school with posters, plays, rallies and school assignments.

I testified in front of the CA State Senate against a bill that would completely re-write our American history in school textbooks. I thought a school field trip with my 4th grader to the State Capitol Building in Sacramento would be a wonderful patriotic experience for the children. Instead, they were told that the Constitution was not inspired, but just an incomplete, living, breathing document with many errors that needed to be fixed or thrown out. They were shown Japanese internment camp displays for an hour while listening to speakers tell them how evil America is. They went away ashamed of America, not proud of their heritage. I believe Vladimir Lenin when he said, "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." Adolf Hitler echoed, "If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed." After putting up with so much indoctrination I finally took my children out of school to home school them so we could bring God and truth back into their daily academic lessons.

We moved from California to Utah a year and a half ago because we had hoped that this was a more conservative, religious environment to raise our children. I told my children they would be safe to go to school here because we didnít have to fear indoctrination. Well I was wrong. Not only are they not being challenged academically but now we are finding out that the district is involved in pushing this dangerous progressive agenda whether they realize it or not. Through your motto, you are telling parents that their familyís culture isnít good enough, so it is the schoolís job now to enculturate the children into believing in a new culture, one of social and political democracy. From everything that Iíve studied, that means socialism or the next step towards it. Lenin said "Democracy is indispensable to socialism." Karl Marx is quoted as saying "Democracy is the road to socialism." Who are we following? Who are we using as our Founding Fathers? George Washington and James Madison, or Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin and John Goodlad?

My father served in the United States military for decades defending this Republic. My mother sacrificed everything to come to this country of liberty and escape from communism. I have been taught my entire life to respect this country, to be thankful for the freedom I have and to fight any evil that seeks to destroy my liberties. I will not sit idly by as my children and the other children of this district are taught false statements about this country. If this nation does become "fundamentally transformed" like so many of our progressive government leaders are trying so hard to accomplish, I do not want to look my children in the eye and tell them I did nothing to save it. Correct education starts at home first. The schools should be an extension of those teachings, not an enculturation factory which undermines the family. We need a strong generation of educated and civic minded children. If our beloved Constitution is to be hanging by a thread, I want this generation of children to know how to restore it back to the original form the Founding Fathers intended it to be when they were inspired by God to write it. I ask you, please concentrate on academics, and when you do teach civics, be careful to follow the Founding Fathers who wrote our inspired Constitution and not the educated elite who follow a Socialist agenda.

I want to make this clear: I donít believe the staff at Alpine School District is intentionally trying to corrupt our children. What I do believe is that there are evil men who know that the way to introduce progressivism and socialism into our country is by teaching false education ideas to children and appealing to the pride of top administrators. The way I see it is that ASD is the keeper of the well. We have entrusted them to protect the water and keep it pure before they ladle it up for children to drink. They might not be the ones poisoning the water, but they have let the poison seep into our school district and therefore into our schools by adopting false educational ideas which stem from radical progressives. I represent one of the Ďtownspeopleí who discovered that our well keepers were asleep on the job as this poison leaked into our district. Unfortunately, they still donít see the poison as many townspeople are trying to warn them. Worse, they are too prideful to see their error so continue to teach this vehemently. It is important that we "awaken to this awful situation" right here in Utah and do something about it. It is not enough to read this and find it shocking. I am asking that you please join with many other patriotic citizens to ask this district to stop teaching false political ideas and go back to concentrating on academic subjects and the true principles of the Constitution.

Disturbing Phone Call with ASD

By Susie Schnell

ASD: "We donít have to agree with everything he [Goodlad] says, in order to follow him. We have no intention of changing course."

In early April 2010, I called Rhonda Bromley, assistant to Superintendent Vern Henshaw and spokesperson for Alpine School District, to discuss my concerns about District ties to education reformer John Goodlad.

Rhonda and I spoke for 45 minutes. She told me the board had no intention of changing their core values even if they changed one or two words in the mission statement. She said they would continue to follow Goodlad, including his four "Moral Dimensions" and would not change the "Enculturating" signs.

Over the next week I did more research. I found out that the districtís participation with Goodlad is much deeper than I had originally thought:

  • ASD Superintendent Vern Henshaw not only knows who John Goodlad is, but he is actually part of the governing body and speaks at the NNER Conventions where Goodlad and other socialist education reformers such as Bill Ayers (former Weather Underground terrorist and current head of Education at the University of Illinois) are featured speakers. (2005 NNER Conference)
  • Henshaw and other district administrators are leaders in the movement. They have been given National awards for their involvement with Goodladís Democracy Agenda.

Rhonda called me back on April 13. She told me she has worked in the district for 21 years, knows exactly what goes on and agrees with it. She again spoke for the district when she defended Goodlad and his philosophies, saying that they didnít have to read everything he has written or agree with everything he says in order to follow what he teaches about education. She was keenly aware that Goodlad is a Socialist/Humanist/Atheist, but that didnít deter the board or district from following his education reform philosophies.

As shocking as that was, I wasnít prepared for what she said next. In reference to the ASD Web site link "America: Republic or Democracy", Rhonda said that the link was a Ďmistakeí because the staffer was supposed to have only linked to the essay as a PDF file so it stood alone on a page, instead of going to the entire (offensive) William Meyers website. THAT was the mistake! Not the substance of the essay, wherein the author calls George Washington and other founding fathers "predatory elitists" who were about "keeping control in the hands of rich." ASD has no problem with the denigrating article itself. Only that it was presented with other links that showed the disturbing beliefs of the atheist author for all to see.

I reminded her again that Goodlad speaks of morals, but he believes in moral relativism because he is an atheist. He uses fuzzy-feel good words to put forth his Progressive/Socialist Agenda, but there is a larger goal in mind for complete social and political reform. She still stood strongly behind him, speaking as a spokesperson for the district. I reminded her that many people are upset in this country that Social Progressivism is taking hold and I believe that the majority of people in this conservative community would outright disagree with the district taking this direction. Rhonda simply agreed that we are on completely opposite sides of the political spectrum and that weíd have to agree to disagree.

Studdert Calls for Henshaw Resignation

Posted on June 14, 2010 by jcarman

Stephen Studdert, author of America in Danger, and advisor to three Republican U.S. Presidents, lives in the Alpine School District boundaries. With his permission, here the March 10th letter he sent to current school board member Chrissy Hannemman:

Stephen M. Studdert

March 10, 2010

Ms. Christine M. Hanneman
316 Twin River Loop
Alpine, UT 84004

Dear Chrissy,

Our six children were educated in public schools; four graduated from high school in American Fork and Highland. Never have I before written to a school board member, but I voted for you because I expect you to lead Ė and today you are failing that expectation.

This morning I read the insulting statement of the Alpine School District which was presented at last nightís board meeting. I find it disappointing, indeed pathetic, for the board to take such a weak and principle-free position on what is really a blatant failure of leadership. This matter is not a mere "mistake".

The board insults all of us in labeling the web-link and apparently the Mission Statement as a "mistake", for such is a horrendous violation of the public trust. The mission statement, and its prominence throughout the district, was not a "mistake"; it was a deliberate thought-out action by district employees, as was the web-link. Its mere existence is a clear failure on the part of those elected to represent us citizens, to protect and educate our children, and to provide the governance for which you were elected.

The mission statement of an organization declares the purpose of an organization. It guides the actions of the organization, spells out its overall goal, provides a sense of direction, and guides decision-making. It provides the framework or context within which strategies are formulated. It is central to everything in the organization.

Leadership requires accountability; you canít have one without the other. They are two sides of the same coin. You, as a board member accountable to the citizens, have a duty to hold the Superintendant to account for such remarkably incompetent performance. The magnitude of this action cannot honestly be labeled a "mistake"; it is at best a gross failure of duty, or worse. It was deliberate on someoneís part, and the superintendent must be held accountable.

It is also astounding, and yet further indicative of the failure of leadership, that the absurd and factually erroneous District Mission Statement yet still today remains prominent on the district website. It is a tragic indictment of the Board and Administration to present a Mission Statement that cannot even be accurate in stating our American form of government.

I call upon you to properly hold Superintendent Henshaw accountable for his extraordinary failure, and to immediately terminate him. He is the chief executive officer of the district and as such is responsible for such overarching strategic declarations as the "mission statement". If he allows such an egregious "mistake" which impacts every student and parent and teacher in the district, he clearly is not competent to lead the district.

We elected you to do your duty. No more important matter has yet come before the board during your term.
